2010 SEO Industry Survey by Seomoz.org

It looks like we are getting a lot of survey results lately but this in fact at least for me is one of the most important, since there are not so many companies who make surveys on our industry.

Seomoz.org again has made public the 2010 results and there are very insightful results under different perspectives.

What I can basically extract is that companies are tending to outsource much more their SEO efforts. I believe this is due to lack of in-house specialization and that it can be far expensive to have their own internal SEO department and get them to keep updated.

Me as being a Mexican living in Spain feel that there has to be much more information gathered like this but with a higher outside-US participation. That will be the only way to better understand what our industry is up to and the huge differences that exist nowadays in terms of the focus and importance SEO represents in different countries.

Have a look at the great infographic that Seomoz.org made with their famous robot including some key findings of the survey.

Comprehensive Guide To SEO

Its been a while since I last wrote and this was due to the launch of the new Andromedical Shop, a new store for the company I work used to work. I took us almost 8 months to finish this work and It was absorbing most of my time.

As usual I was reading the latest news on the wonderful world of SEO and I found an excellent slide show on this subject from the Wizard of Moz (Rand Fishkin). I want to share it not because I havent shared this kind of documents, but because I believe its one of the most comprehensive SEO guides I have seen out there.

Don’t forget to discover their latest campaign based web-app as well a the several tools they have to offer.

New Google Personalized Search

A couple of weeks ago Google launched it’s new Personalized Search. This new feature lead SEOs to think that our efforts on getting good rankings for a site which is not that new and has a low authority, will need to be re-optimized.

But the main question is how will this affects us? well, to answer that question Rand Fishkin, head at SEOmoz.org is sharing his thoughts on the subject.

But first just to understand what Google is doing, here is a video with a brief explanation:

This is the review Rand made on the new Google Personalized Search

How Personalized Search Changes SEO (and Doesn’t)

If you wish to disable this feature for different Google TLDs you can find plugins for this here (works on both Firefox and IE):

Dealing With Duplicate Content

There is a thing called WhiteBoard Friday at SEOmoz.org. This time Rand Fishkin or “The Wizard of Moz” as people call him, gives a deep explanation on duplicate content and how to deal with it.

At the company I work, we have been struggling against competitors who just copy our contents, try to hurt our SEO rankings posting our contents in blogs, or the worst part, when your own affiliates or resellers make use of your exact same contents for the promotion of your products.

For this reason, if you don’t want your affiliates or resellers to use your content. You should first let them know that it is not allowed, but still that you are there to help them by providing alternative pieces of work. It’s very important that they are not just having to copy contents from other sources as it may be inaccurate and not updated information about your products or company.

So, here is the WhiteBoard Friday session which I think is very insightful.

How To Lose Your Bloginity

A lot of people has the desire of starting a new blog, a new website or just start Twitting. But that’s when the internal questions arise.

Am I going to update this new little piece of work or I’m just going to post two or three things and then just leave it? or What should I say? anybody cares about my life, my work or even the things I have to say.

So I thought…hey why try to answer all this questions before really getting into it. I should just do it and see how it goes.

And so here I am just starting to discover a new way of just exposing things I think are useful for SEO matters and Internet stuff.

So now that I introduced this new “little piece of work” in a few words. I want to start with a very interesting post I just read at one of my favorite sites: Seomoz.org

This is one of the most common questions I get from the people I know. How do you learn about this things? where do you get the information from?

This is not a profession where you can find hundreds of universities where to learn, actually most of this is really new to most of the population even though it has been there for several years now.

I just want to clear out that I don’t consider myself an SEO expert, I have just been around for 5 years and I still think have a loooot to learn.

I think this post from Whiteboard Friday as they call it, by Rand Fishkin explains this very well.
