SEMPO Survey 2010 Social Media

In the last post I talked about how useful Social Media can be as a booster for our SEO efforts. Today I found the SEMPO (Search Engine Marketing Professional Organization) 2010 annual survey on Social Media.

Did you know that 86% of the agencies worldwide (1.472 professionals survey) expect their clients to increase their spending on social media in 2010 aginst 2009 spending. This is a good indicator of what agencies should start to focus their efforts on.

Below you will find an abstract of the findings from this survey. I believe 2010 will be a year where these networks will take a very important part in how we promote our brands while lowering our costs if done properly.

Using Social Media for SEO Purposes

How can I boost my SEO efforts by using my Social Media profiles?

As usual I was getting prepared for my every-friday personal training. So I headed to Seomoz.org to watch their latest Whiteboard Friday. Today´s topic is something that I believe that a lot of people in our industry are starting to realize; Social Media works great for SEO purposes.

So I decided to embed the video which is a brief insight on how we can leverage our SEO efforts with the help of our own Social profiles.

I hope this video helps you get a better idea on how to reap the benefit of your social media profiles and get your SEO strategy much stronger.

Google Live Search On The Move

About two weeks ago I wrote a post regarding the inclusion of Twitter results in Google Search (Google + Twitter = Spam).

Yesterday Google held its pre-holidays Search Event and they introduced some new features, but I believe that there were two of them which are both amazing and a high impact in today’s SEO.

First they introduced the new Google Goggles an application for mobiles (using Android 1.6+) which lets you take a picture of almost anything and get search results based on that image.

This feature is quite impressive while I hope the iPhone will be able to use it as well, in conjunction with their augmented reality apps.

The second one was the new Google Live Search. The image below shows a post I made with my Twitter account in real time.

There are two important observations I want to share which may be going ahead too much, but I strongly believe this is the path Google will be taking over the next year.

You remember Google Wave right….well, the new interface within Google Live Search is very similar to Wave’s and they just integrated Twitter results. Is this meaning that Google intends to make Wave somehow its own version of Twitter? I believe so, I think Google will try to neutralize Twitter in a way that Wave becomes the most used 140 characters (in this case more) real time service and serve their own results in Google Live Search.

Yesterday the people at Google got a few questions regarding SPAM. They argue that Matt Cutts, head of spam at Google, is working very hard and has the sufficient experience to get rid of all spam that might try to emerge on Live Search Results……still no clue on how will they sort this out.

So my theory is that Google will get rid of Twitter and even Facebook. And on the other hand, they will eventually have enough information from reliable sources not to even bother on showing let’s say…Murdoch headlines.

Again this is just my perception.

Google + Twitter = Spam

Will this image come true?

Last Octobrer 21st Google announced that they will show Twitts within Google search results making it a little bit more real. The problem this might bring along, is the so feared SPAM, since this is an open door for spammers to start ranking and flooding this network.

For what I have read there are many options people think might be a good way to avoid this problem.

There are the ones that think Twitter should charge a fee for business type accounts. Others believe Google shouldn’t start showing Twitter results and better be thinking in a way to use Google Wave as a real time resource.

I really think there is no way of getting rid of spam, there is only chance to minimize this and try getting around by giving twitter accounts credibility based on inbound linking accounts. Still, this means Twitter plays a very important role in spammy account detection.

Other issues around are the privacy of Twitter accounts, not everyone knows how to protect their profile and it seems this has started to be a problem. Other problem is having someone take your brand for nothing-to-do-with accounts.

All of the above will grow as spammers look for ways of getting into social media. Lets just hope tomorrow we don’t have full of “V1@gr@” posts.
